Once upon a time, there was an 18 year old named Lucy who never really knew who she was or how to like herself, but felt there were the answers to all her questions out there somewhere in the world. One cold April morning of her senior year, she left for a school trip to the Peruvian Amazon. She did not figure out who she was or how to like herself on that trip - but something told her that going back to Peru was a good place to start in learning how. 

Spoiler Alert! She did go back. She figured out who she was and how to like herself, but more importantly, how to love the world around her. 

Lucy has had the privilege of not only returning to Iquitos, Peru six more times, but during those trips she has worked at Explorama lodges, led a group, assisted a marine biologist studying pink dolphins, and explored other places in Iquitos and throughout the country! 

While Peru was her first true love, it will never be her last - she has also ventured to Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, Panama, Puerto Rico, throughout Europe, and Thailand! Whether she has been visiting or adventuring with friends, trying something new on a retreat, studying, or (her favorite) traveling solo…she always loves to learn, explore, and connect. 

Beyond travel, Lucy has worked in education for over 10 years; from non-profits, out-of-school-time, public high school, community education, to higher education. She has taught salsa in Puerto Rico and was recently certified in American Preparatory Ballet Training by Boston Ballet. She coached club volleyball and still loves to play whenever she can. She was also selected for two years in a row to be a fellow in UC Berkeley’s Greater Goods Science Center Bridging Differences Community of Learning for the campus cohort and project-based cohort, respectively. 

‘In A Small World’ has been born out of Lucy’s love of the global community and the desire to share experiences of clarity, getting out of your comfort zone, and learning new things about yourself, others, and the world around you.
